February 2009: Effectively Marketing Your Zone
Welcome

Dear RMDZ Workshop Attendee:

It is our pleasure to invite you to the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Sacramento State University, University Union “Zone Works” Training Workshop on February 10 -- 11, 2009.

The focus of this workshop is effectively marketing your zone. Training includes an overview on social marketing principles, sessions on newly developed zone marketing tools, and exercises putting these new marketing tools and principles to use. Building on the last “Zone Works training,” there will also be a session on program measurement with a marketing emphasis. The ever popular Zone Share will return where you will have opportunity to peer share with fellow ZAs and Board Zone Liaison staff, and engage in joint problem solving.  At the end of the first day’s session, there will again be ample opportunity to informally network with peers and Board Zone Liaison staff.  On the second day, Howard Levenson, Program Director for the Sustainability Program, will be speaking on key legislation and Board Initiatives. During this time, he will update you on the Board’s December committee meeting to discuss the recycling export markets and opportunities this provides for the RMDZ Program.  We strongly encourage you to attend and share your ideas on how we can better target our programs resulting in environmental and economic benefits.

Arrangements for registration, travel and one night’s hotel can be made by CSUS using the online registration process, by phone or by mail. The cost for each of these will be automatically paid via each ZA’s Zone Incentive Funds (ZIF). You will not have to get pre-approval or submit a reimbursement. Other expenses like mileage or airport parking will require submitting a reimbursement form.  More instructions are forthcoming.  Additionally, there will be a session at this training to update you on the developing ZIF program details.  We strongly encourage you to attend—remember ZIF funds require each ZA to attend at least two Zone Works.

We look forward to a successful event and hope to see you at Sacramento State University on February 10 –11, 2009. If you have any questions about Zone Works, please contact Marshalle Graham atmgraham@ciwmb.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

John Smith, Branch Manager
