May 2020
Welcome

Dear Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) Workshop Attendee:
We are pleased to invite you to CalRecycle's first ever virtual Zone Works Training Workshop on May 12th. Zone Works offers the unique opportunity for Zone Administrators, CalRecycle Zone Liaisons and Loan staff, and valued program partners to regularly convene and discuss current issues and to coordinate business assistance. Through the educational and networking sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about new and expanding funding opportunities and other business incentives to support recycling manufacturers and reuse/recovery networks.

Workshop Summary

Matt Henigan, Deputy Director, Materials Management and Local Assistance Division, CalRecycle, will begin the virtual workshop with his opening remarks and updates.

In the first session of the virtual workshop, the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) will give us an update about the California Lending for Energy and Environmental Needs (CLEEN) financing program eligibility and criteria as well as the proposed Climate Catalyst Revolving Loan fund that was in design before the COVID-19 pandemic. IBank is also seeking green project information for its project pipeline as possible stimulus funds or other funding opportunities for manufacturers become available.

Manuel Medrano, Zone Administrator, South San Diego/Imperial County and your California Association of Recycling Market Development Zones president, will facilitate this session. He will give ZAs an opportunity to ask technical questions about the Zone Information Reporting System (ZIRS) and how to apply for Zone Incentive Funds (ZIFs). Then he’ll introduce you to Bob Hollis, Principal, The Mobius Network, who will talk about how he has built RMDZ websites and social media platforms for other zones who used ZIFs for his services. Then ZAs can share their business assistance projects and describe how the pandemic is affecting them and their businesses.

We will conclude the workshop with a brief update about plans for Zone Works in the fall 2020.

This virtual workshop will give us the opportunity to connect and share resources in spite of Covid-19!

We hope you will join us via Zoom on May 12 from 9:00 AM to noon.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about Zone Works, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Frank Severson, Zone Works Coordinator
