October 2009: Taking Technical Assistance to the Next Level
Welcome

Dear RMDZ Workshop Attendee:

It is our pleasure to invite you to the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Embassy Suites Sacramento “Zone Works” Training Workshop on October 29-30, 2009.

The focus of this “Zone Works” is taking RMDZ technical assistance to the next level. The workshop will highlight various technical assistance tools and resources, including the California Air Resources Board’s Small Business Toolkit.  Presentations will be followed by another ever-popular Peer Share session.  Focusing on Regional Connections: Bringing people together – Creating networks, ZAs will have opportunity to exchange ideas, problem solve, and build expertise and knowledge during this interactive session.  At the end of the first day’s session, there will again be ample opportunity to informally network with peers and Board Zone Liaison staff.  Zone Works will also again include a RMDZ Orientation (Zone Administration 101) session for newer ZAs/Zone liaisons (all attendees welcome, of course).  In preparation for this training, we have asked participants to suggest topics of interest.  This feedback will enable us to tailor the training session to the needs of those attending.  Similarly, in response to requests provided in follow-up to last June’s training workshop, on the second day of Zone Works, we will learn more about the emerging Biofuel technology and how it fits in within the RMDZ program.  As you can see, this Zone Works promises to be another exceptional, engaging training opportunity!

Arrangements for registration, travel, and one night’s hotel can be made by CSUS using the online registration process, by phone, or by mail. The cost for each of these will be automatically paid via each ZA’s Zone Incentive Funds (ZIF). You will not have to get pre-approval or submit a reimbursement for airfare, lodging, or registration. However, other expenses like mileage or airport parking will require submitting a reimbursement form, which will be provided at the workshop. Please also be aware, if an additional night’s lodging is required, you will need pre-approval from Marshalle Graham prior to registering. Also, if you are a ZA and would like to use your ZIF monies to pay for a guest from your Zone to attend the workshop, prior approval must be obtained from Marshalle Graham. More instructions are forthcoming.

We look forward to a successful event and hope to see you in Sacramento on October 29– 30, 2009.  If you have any questions about Zone Works, please contact Marshalle Graham atmgraham@ciwmb.ca.gov or 916-341-6270.

Sincerely,

John D. Smith, Branch Manager
