June 2009: Resources for RMDZ Businesses in Challenging Economic Times
Welcome

Dear RMDZ Workshop Attendee:

It is our pleasure to invite you to the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel “Zone Works” Training Workshop on June 25 -- 26, 2009.

The focus of this “Zone Works” is resources for RMDZ businesses in challenging economic times. The workshop includes presentations on the overall State economic climate as it relates to recycling businesses and available financial resources.  Presentations will be followed by regional breakout sessions with Zone Administrators (ZAs) and Board Zone Liaisons to discuss current economic challenges and opportunities. ZAs will also have a chance to exchange ideas, problem solve, and build expertise and knowledge during another engaging and interactive Peer Share session. At the end of the first day’s session, there will again be ample opportunity to informally network with peers and Board Zone Liaison staff, as well as to get updates on Board initiatives such as the new Zone designation cycle, Zone Incentive Funds, RMDZ loans and legislation. On the second day, the marketing team will provide an update on the materials previewed and commented on at the February training workshop. Attendees will also hear from a panel of various RMDZ businesses regarding how the recent economic downturn has affected their operations and what they are doing to sustain their business. Lastly, this Zone Works includes a RMDZ Orientation (Zone Administration 101) session for new ZAs/Zone liaisons, or any existing folks needing a refresher.

Arrangements for registration, travel and one night’s hotel can be made by CSUS using the online registration process, by phone or by mail. The cost for each of these will be automatically paid via each ZA’s Zone Incentive Funds (ZIF). You will not have to get pre-approval or submit a reimbursement for airfare, lodging or registration. However, other expenses like mileage or airport parking will require submitting a reimbursement form, which will be provided at the workshop. Please also be aware, if an additional night’s lodging is required, you will need pre-approval from Marshalle Graham prior to registering. Also, if you are a ZA and would like to use your ZIF monies to pay for a guest from your Zone to attend the workshop, prior approval must be obtained from Marshalle Graham. More instructions are forthcoming.

We look forward to a successful event and hope to see you in Sacramento on June 25 – 26, 2009.  If you have any questions about Zone Works, please contact Marshalle Graham at mgraham@ciwmb.ca.gov or 916-341-6270.

Sincerely,

John D. Smith, Branch Manager
