December 2017
Welcome

Dear Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) Workshop Attendee:

We are pleased to invite you to CalRecycle's Zone Works Training Workshop on December 5-6, 2017 at the Holiday Inn in Sacramento. Zone Works offers the unique opportunity for Zone Administrators, CalRecycle Zone Liaisons and Loan staff, and valued program partners to regularly convene and discuss current issues and to coordinate business assistance activities. Through the educational and networking sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about new and expanding funding opportunities and other business incentives to support recycling manufacturers and reuse/recovery networks.

Pre-Workshop Opportunities

  • The morning of December 5th, Zone Administrators are encouraged to attend the California Association of Recycling Market Development Zones (CARMDZ) meeting.

  • Additionally, for new Zone Administrators, CalRecycle and CARMDZ will host a RMDZ 101 training to review roles and share resources.

Workshop Summary

Following the CARMDZ meeting, RMDZ 101 Training and lunch on December 5th, the first session of the training workshop explores China’s ever-shrinking market for U.S. discards and what we can do about it.

The following session features an update on SB 1383, with a focus on the market development concepts.

During the third session on Day One, we will have the ever-popular Peer Share session led by Maureen Hart. We’ll have zones talk about their experiences with Fix-It Clinics and with multi-pronged social-media campaigns.

We will conclude the first day with a networking reception during which attendees have the opportunity to discuss the material shared throughout the day and have additional access to workshop presenters.

On Day Two, we will have presentations about recent loans we have financed, ones in the pipeline, and even have a couple of recent loan recipients talk to us about their business and their interaction with their Zone Administrator and CalRecycle.

We will wrap up our workshop with a session where ZAs will talk about the local resources and key contacts they use to help them help their customers.

We are excited about the diverse array of excellent topics and hope you will join us in Sacramento on December 5-6, 2017. In the meantime, if you have any questions about Zone Works, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Frank Severson, Zone Works Coordinator
